Renos Revealed!

Here is my three week bathroom reno! (I think 2 of those weeks was spent on taking down the wallpaper)
A few before pictures

This renovation cost me 85$... but that is pretty misleading since I used alot of supplies I already had in my house. Let me brake it down for you:

Martha Stewart Living beadboard paintable wallpaper 24.99$
Wood trim on top of wallpaper (we already had one piece) 10$
Silver mirror from Homesense 30$
Glass knobs, found on ebay, 20$
Taking down the wallpaper

Stuff we already had.... wallpaper paste, paint, baseboards, spray paint, vintage wood frames and all the other decorations.

So here is a list of what I did... painted the room a beachy weathered grey color, put up beadboard wallpaper and wood trim on top of it. Painted the baseboards, wallpaper and wood trim the same white color. Spray painted the existing lighting fixture white, spray painted some old frames white, put new glass knobs on the vanity and white cupboard, and bought a new mirror.
The new knobs

The frames, before and after

I love the bathroom now. I can't believe I left it for so long! When I pass by sometimes I just walk in and look around. It's so fresh and bright!
Finished Project!

Bedroom Bliss!

I love how our bedroom is turning out. I was a little nervous about how much space we had for our bed and end tables, but it ended out being perfect! I searched for end tables for a long time, and eventually found these on Kijiji for 15$... and then paid another 15$ for the cute glass and silver knobs. The lamps and center pillow I got from my husband for my birthday this year... they are from homesense. Hopefully this summer I will make a headboard. (Any ideas for fabric choices? I think there is a lot of cream, tan and white in the room already. My mom suggested dark brown with lots of texture, but I would love suggestions if you have any!)
The other side of the bedroom is still being figured out... but I did buy blinds today, I have to wait till tomorrow to pick them up. Also, our closet systems should be coming in on Tuesday! I am so excited to hang up my clothes! ... a walk-in closet... every girl's dream, right?

I want the whole world

I want the world
I want the whole world
I want to lock it all up in my pocket
It's my bar of chocolate
Give it to me
Now!

This song from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is stuck in my head right now... and its so fitting. I have been in such a money spending-purchase everything mood. Here are my latest four wants:

1. This throw from Anthropologie. I want this one bad... it's on sale for 50$ (regularly 230$). I had my credit card out ready to buy but then shipping and taxes was over 30$... so I am still thinking about it. Plus my grandma is over right now and she says she will teach me how to make crochet flowers.2. Trunk. I was thinking of using if for an end table.
3. Typewritter. When I showed my husband this picture and said I wanted to buy it... he laughed and said "you just really want to buy somthing, eh." I think it would be a very neat decoration.
4. This desk. My plan would be to stain it dark brown... maybe black, and then put wallpaper on the back board of the hutch. It is from kijiji for 60$... which is cheaper then the typewriter.
All of these items are wanted for the same space. I have this vision for one of our spare rooms. I am thinking white walls, with lots of color and wood and textures... and just eclectic items. (Hence the typewriter) This is one of my inspiration photos (It's in this past issue of Style at Home):

If it's a puzzle... I just found a piece!

I just bought a faucet for our clawfoot tub! (Well I just ordered it) It feels like we are getting all the pieces for this bathroom... now we just need to put it all together!
Right now I am trying to decide how I want to paint the tub... I am thinking black with the claw feet being white (like in the first picture)... but I waver, the silver feet make quite a statement. What do you think?

Sink & Faucet

Just bought this sexy faucet from ebay:

And this sink, also from ebay:

Hopefully they will work well together. I am a little nervous since the faucet is so high. Cant' wait till they come.... and even more until they are installed!

My Christmas Gift

My husband bought me this metal wall decor for Christmas. He tells me that I said I liked it when we were walking through this designer store a few months back... I can vaguely remember, but I am glad he was listening, because I absolutely love it!

It's Out!

.

So, my blending in decorations did not last very long. I had to take the little skeletons down after Halloween, which left my chandelier a little bare. I bought the snowflake garland at dollaramma and the pine cones were my last year's Christmas craft.
On the table I still have my painted gourds... they are still there as a statement of November being a transitioning month (and I love them I can't bare to throw them out). Mixed in with the guards I have snowflakes, my trees (from last year as well), candles and my new purchase, my reindeer. He is only 5$ at Super store, so run out an get one! (They also have a lying down one, which is on my list of must haves.)

New Chairs... New Color Scheme?

I just bought these chairs and I love them! The wing back style looks so regal, comfy and classic... perfect for my house! (Well I don't know about the regal part) I bought them thinking I would recover them, but when I got them home I realised two things. One: the fabric is in really good condition. Two: it would take a ton of work to recover these properly. So I think, at least for the first while, I am going to keep these guys as they are. The fabric I am planing to use for the dining room chairs has this teal/forest green color in it, so I am going to make two rectangular pillows to sit on the chairs to try to tie them in. (The fabric on the left is the dinning room chair and pillow fabric, the middle fabric is for the couch, and the fabric on the right, was for the chairs, but I think it will be drapery now... we will see)Then if I can find one more fabric with the teal color and the blues, greens and browns to just tie everything in a little bit more I think this new color scheme will work... especially with hits of coral.

Giving Up On Garage Sales

This past Saturday me and my husband stayed in the city because we had a wedding to go to... we usually go away for the weekends. So we decided to take advantage of our weekend in the city and finally for garage sale-ing! I was so pumped! Needless to say it was such a waste of a morning, all I got our of our morning or walking and driving was the frame below.(the outer one... I am just storing it there for now) I think thrift stores are the way to go... they weed out alot of crap and it's all there in one spot!

New vs. Old

The other day me and my husband were at Ikea and saw these glasses. (pictured above) We thought they were totally cute. I can't remember why... but in the end we didn't get them. Then yesterday I was strolling the Salvation Thrift store aisles, like I usually do, and came across these:

I love them, more then the Ikea ones for sure. I know some people would pick new item over old item any day, but I think, more then not, I love the character and history of the old. (Only four are pictured, but I bought a set of eight)

Eco Friendly, Bright and Sexy Sleek...

... if only my lighting fixture was a man! (... I would set him up with my best friend, because I am happy and in love with my husband!) We purchased this bad boy from the Home Depot for about 60$, and because it is eco friendly the store man gave my this form to fill out and sent to Manitoba Hydro and then they give you a rebate on your next hydro bill. You have to ask the store for the form, but it's a pretty cool idea on Manitoba Hydro's part.
So this is step one of our desperately needed bedroom make over! Exciting! I have also ordered the wallpaper mural, can't wait for that to arrive! You know a girl is pumped when she uses three exclamation marks in a row! Make that four.

Butcher? Baker? I choose Candle Stick Maker!

I bought myself another pair of candle sticks and candles. I think I might be addicted... as I sit here at my computer I can see four pairs of candle holders. (which are not my new ones) But in my defense, I did not own a pair of candle holders that were glass and for thick candles. I'm sure with that case the judge will not find me guilty.
I bought them for our bedroom, but I think I will wait till after the renos to move them in... it'll be more dramatic that way. They are perched in my bathroom for now.

Thank You Junk Drawer!

I was doing a little spring cleaning slash rearranging and decided it was time for a new center piece. The vase in the center used to have a fish in it, but that didn't end well so the vase was not being used. The black rocks and the glass beads were in my junk drawer and so was the candle. A little trip to Urban Barn for the black place mat and coasters and voila.... center piece!

Spring Time Jewelery

The past few weeks I have felt like primping myself up a bit, putting a little bit of bling on... I blame it on the sun-shiny weather. These are a few etsy finds that have caught my eye. Click on the picture for the link to the seller.
