4 Tables in three weeks!

I have accumulated four tables in three weeks. My glass coffee table, a small round wood and metal table, the dinning room table from the home we are moving into and this table... my 20$ table. I gave him a two good primer coats then used less then one can of spray paint... he's sexy, no?

Feed Your Soul = Free Art!

I found the website Feed Your Soul through a design blog. This is a little snip taken from the site to explain the project:

Feed Your Soul is a free art project. Each month artists are invited to participate and to contribute a print which is totally free and available for download.

This project is coordinated by Jen Wallace of Indie Fixx to help art lovers feed their souls with art in these recessionary times and to help artists promote their work.

Each week (usually on Monday) 2 + prints are added to the available downloads.

If you are an artist and would like to submit your work for consideration, just send an email with your url or 1-2 images of your work. The project is booked through August. It may take us a while to get back to you as well.

Remember, art can free your soul!

Peace, love, art and happiness...

So I downloaded a few photos and got them printed... the result:

More House Photos

Me and my husband went for a tour of the house yesterday. The lady was super nice, she mostly wanted to show us which light switchs did what. Helpful advice, especially since one switches off the out side plug that you would use to plug in your car. (This is important for our Winnipeg winters) She also showed us a bunch of her furniture she was trying to sell, and we asked her how much she was selling her dinning room table and chairs and she said she'd just leave them for us! So nice! I couldn't believe it. I don't really have a great picture of the table and chairs, but the chairs have a fabric seat that I would recover. She is also leaving her fathers tool's and work bench for Jonas. Anyway... enough chit chat... here are the pictures:

These are the floors upstairs, they are fir. The main floor is oak.
This is in the basement. Scary. It reminds me of Kevin's basement in Home Alone.
The neighborhood. I love love love our neighborhood... lots of character homes with color and mature trees.
The master bedroom.
Upstairs hallway.
So much wall paper.... I am a little nervous, since I have never taken down wallpaper... but on the plus side I'm sure I could go pro after finishing this house.
Dinning room.

I never bought myself the old chandelier for the craft project I wanted to do, so when I saw this I freaked! Now I don't have to buy one!
Main floor bathroom.
Main floor hallway light. Love it.

Bedroom on the main floor.
Main floor bedroom closet. This house has so much storage!

Desire to Inspire

These photos came from Desire to Inspire. The link is in my blog list or here. I've been trying to find inspiration for decorating our new house and this blog stays true to it's name. Here are a few examples of photos I have found inspiration from.

I love the photo below. I really want to try the look they did with the dresser, by painting out the outer frame a solid color and leaving the drawers with the wood texture. I also love the vintage chair upholstered in a modern color... I am on the hunt right now for a pair of vintage chairs I can do this to.From this photo I love the mixture of different art work on the same wall. I love how busy this room looks. I love it when you walk into a room and there is so much to look at. I am also a huge fan of the display case. I like the use of fabric in this photo, in the display case and in on the chairs. I think I've decided I also really like it when the table doesn't match the chairs. Matchy matchy is out, for me at least.I want these chairs!

Kitchen Dreams {for the short term}

My Kitchen
What I Want My Kitchen To Look Like

K... back to designing the new house! yeah! So me and my husband have decided that eventually we are going to do a big kitchen reno, like in three years or so, but untill then I still want to update the kitchen a little. So I took the mls picture of what the kitchen looks like now and an inspiration kitchen (pictured above) and morphed them together. In this short term reno I plan to paint the cabinets, take down the wallpaper and paint the walls, redo the hardware, paint the door... and I changed the floor in the picture, but that is most a dream that will remain a dream. So mostly it'll just be paint. Easy peasy.

Lastly, I want to put up floating shelves on the empty wall to store and display our nice dishes. I don't want to block up that wall too much because it has the window behind it. Below is an example of what I mean. (and I just happen to have one ikea floating shelf that will do nicely!)

Butterflies on the Brain {Operation... I'm the Dr. for you}

Apparently all I think about is butterflies these days. Oh well, I can think or worse things to think about... sick puppies, dandylions, biting tin foil...

Anyway. I saw this photo of an art exhibit (link to picture's website here) and got so anxious to try it myself. I went out and bought myself five records for five dollars at a thrift store, cut out my butterfly template and taped it on to the record. I got my scissors and went to cut when, to my surprize, I realized how hard vinyl actually is. There is no way any type of scissor could make it through that. So my dad set up his scroll saw for me and that work beautifully. Then I put them in the oven at 200 degrees for two mins to soften them up so I could mold the wings. The picture below are my little butterflies... I will wait till we move before I hang them up some where.
Side note, last night I realized that my new house has lots of halls which means more surface space for art!

Giving Up On Garage Sales

This past Saturday me and my husband stayed in the city because we had a wedding to go to... we usually go away for the weekends. So we decided to take advantage of our weekend in the city and finally for garage sale-ing! I was so pumped! Needless to say it was such a waste of a morning, all I got our of our morning or walking and driving was the frame below.(the outer one... I am just storing it there for now) I think thrift stores are the way to go... they weed out alot of crap and it's all there in one spot!

Choosing Paint Colors...

I found another resource for choosing paint colors. I am looking into a light grey blue color, but it's so hard to picture that tiny little swatch square on a whole wall. I have been using benjimen moore's virtual fan deck. Found here. It's helpful because you can find your color then expand it.

One Step Further...

So I have taken my Kuler colors from a my framed butterflies and created a layout. This is for this room: Some of these items we already have, like the glass coffee table, small wood end table and the wood couch... but for the most part it is a blank slate. My husband's tastes run more on the modern side, so I created this layout for him to visualize my ideas. (I think I scared him when the words 'vintage' and 'antique' kept popping up.)

Kuler

So now my mind can't stop thinking decorating. It's kind of hard because I am not in the space and I have to go off off about six pictures and my memory. So I have been perusing blogs, websites and magazines for ideas. Another helpful source has been the website kuler: http://kuler.adobe.com/#create/fromanimage. This site is designed to help someone pick colors. It has so many features which are easy to figure out if you just play around on the site a bit, but I wanted to share about one feature. If you find a reference picture, or even just a photo of a really color flower, you can upload the photo and use these five dots to create a color pallet.
