Yards Are Like Mullets

I find that yards are usually like mullets.... business in the front (grass) and party in the back (garden, patio, deck...). But I think this trend is changing. On my street there are a few house that have these amazing gardens in the front yard and my husband just emailed me some pictures from his friend's front yard. (Pictured below) I love how the planters double as benches.

It's Plus 11 Here... and I'm Puttin Up Christmas Ornaments!

The temperature is very abnormal for Winnipeg at this time of year. I am in no way complaining, but usually we have full blown snow on the streets by now. But snow or no snow I started putting up Christmas decorations! I know it is a little early, so I have been trying to make them blend in with my other decorations. I am so excited for the season!

Great Discount Winnipeg Shopping!

I have two great stores that are not well advertised, but great places to pick up home supplies, to tell you about. The first is the Winnipeg Habitat for Humanity ReStore. This store sells mostly salvaged parts from homes but also carried some overstock or wrongly made custom orders... an example would be custom windows. They have everything from tile, doors, windows, chairs, pieces of glass, door knobs, handles, bathtubs, lighting fixtures, paint, hinges, and some furniture. We recently picked up some new drawer metal pulls for a dollar each, metal table feet and two pieces of ginger colored glass from EQ3 meant for a TV stand top and an end table top for five dollars. (The pulls are pictured on the brown dresser and the feet and pictured with the end table glass top) The address is at 60 Archibald and this is the web site http://www.habitat.mb.ca/restore.html.The other store is the Palliser warehouse, which is pretty impossible to find anything about on the web. This warehouse has amazing deals on furniture and home accessories. They have couches, tables, bedroom sets, rugs, lamps, coffee tables. We picked up a clock (10$), green placemat(3.00$) pictured on my dinningroom table, and bedding (30$). Since EQ3 is part of Palliser this store also carries some of their stock. The address is 630 Kernagham Ave.

Inspiration From An Unlikely Source

My top five websites I visit are my two email domains, facebook, this blog and the real estate website. I love looking at homes for sale! I like to dream about how I would change and renovate a house. But occasionally I find great ideas from homes that are for sale in winnipeg:

I love the staircase, french doors and the white painted sun room with a gazillion plants. The pictures below are all of kitchens. What a bold move to paint the cabinet yellow, but with the black table and black and white backsplash and photo and red dishes it looks awesome. I like the backsplash in the second photo too. The third kitchen is amazing! I can't believe it's a house in Winnipeg!

These last few picture show the power of painted cabinets. The old dingy brown stain that so many house for sale have just dates the kitchen... honestly, just paint it.
The last picture just cracked me up.... umm where can I get that coffee table?

My Mini Winnipeg Vacation!

Where to start... how about were we started: at the spa. We went to the Urban Oasis Spa in the basement of the Clarion Hotel. It was fun to hang out in there mineral pool and my toes look super cute now. After that we hit up Academy. We went to Shopgirl, Loca, a make-up store and a jewellery store. All super cute, but the one store I would recommend avoiding is the Eyelet Dove. We enter the store to a lady scolding us to take off our shoes. She pretty much yelled at us. After Academy we went to the Star Grill on Portage. It was a small, intimate resteraunt with a vast menu. Good food... tight spaces... kind of wierd decorating... they really took the 'star' theme to heart. We also went to EQ3, I always love visiting where my couch was born, and Five Small Rooms on Grant, and Home Sense. It was lot's of fun but it's good to be home with my hubby and puppy.

The Mulvey Market

I just got back from exploring a new wonderland.... also known as the Mulvey Market. It's a flea market on Mulvey, just off Osborne. There about 40 some booths set up, selling all things vintage. I spent 17$ and walked away with two brooches, a purple vase... purple is my new accent color, and my favorite purchase is the miniature furniture set. It's brass, each piece cost 2$. I haven't decided where I'll put them yet, I am thinking some where kind of hidden.. so they are like an I Spy game. Side Note: I am obsessed with I Spy, it's my dream to open up an I Spy Museum. Cool idea, eh? Ok, but back to the Mulvey Market. They had lots of vintage glass wear, especially serving bowls and vases, it almost all colors imaginable, movies, sings, books, sports cards and jewelery. Some specialty stores included a remote control car shop, vintage door knob table, an Elvis booth, McDonalds toys... that one brought back a lot of memories, and action figures.

Let Me Introduce a Little Chi Chi Into Your Life

I have a new favorite store. It's called Chi Chi. It is beautiful! The store is set up in the layout of a home design... for example, there is a bathroom that has hand made soaps and, well, bathroom items. There is also a kitchen, and 4 other rooms. Chi Chi sells vintage and modern items, their tag line is "where eras meet". I love the 1950s woman's slogans on magnets and coasters. They also have great gift ideas, like I bought one of these little walking robots for my brother for on his desk. Me and my husband bought the Barcelona miniature chair for friends of ours. (Its not pictured, but those three are others in the miniature chair line) They also sell wall decals, clocks, jewelery, upcycled furniture and so much more. The store can be found at 515 Osborne Street. (That's south Osborne)
